A SPECIAL TREASURE UNTO THE LORD
And they shall be Mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. (Malachi 3:17)
In Psalm 135:4, we read: “For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto Himself, and Israel for His peculiar treasure. Also, in Deuteronomy 14:2 it says: For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto Himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. How privileged we are to be intimately acquainted with the King!
What a wonderful, loving, awesome God we have as our own. To consider us as his “jewels,” to choose us for Himself as a peculiar people, above all the nations that are upon the earth!! My mind staggers in wonder as I meditate on the obvious thoughts of my Savior toward all who love Him. O the thoughts that He thinks toward us – thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us an expected end. No wonder the Psalmist said, “What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me?” His goodness is past finding out.
In Malachi, the Lord speaks of His people that fear Him – those who spoke often of Him to one another. He states that He listens and He hears us, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those that feared the Lord and that thought upon His name. Our time is well spent when used in conversations and exchange regarding our Lord and Savior. He hears every word and heaven is as a “ready writer” and eager to note the speech and thoughts we have of Him whom we love.
Then he makes known His mutual love for us as He proceeds to call us His “jewels.” Oh how He thinks of us; a “jewel!” Someone highly esteemed and cherished, dearly beloved, of high cost or worth, valuable, His precious darling. Please hear the fondness and affection in this statement.
Be assured that our Lord will always remember those precious times we take to remember and speak of Him to one another in a spirit of love and worship.
